thank you for the reminders Ally, Yoga Annonymous.
The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.~Alice Walker
If you want to change your world and the world around you, you have to start with your thoughts.
Our thoughts create our reality.
If I think, “there’s something deep inside of me that is just unlovable”, believe me, that is going to inform the way I feel and the way I interact with everyone I meet. If I think, “This world is a mess, the system is broken, and there’s nothing I can do”, again, that’s going to be the foundation for my words and my actions (or lack of them).
We all have power.
You can start to change the world around you, AND the way you feel in it, right now, today.
If you want more love in your life, examine your inner dialogue. Are you kind, compassionate, and patient with yourself? Are you accepting and open? Or is that inner voice harsh and full of judgment? Are there things about yourself that make you feel ashamed or unworthy of love, things you think you need to hide? Are you keeping secrets? Because nothing will make you feel more alone in the world than the knowledge that no one really knows you.
How’s your relationship with your body? These are all really important questions to examine if you want to be at peace, and if you want more love in your life, YOU are the one you’ve been waiting for. I’ve been blessed with the friendship of an eighty-year old kid. He’s a private client of mine. And one important thing I’ve realized thanks to our friendship is that we are NEVER done. We are always in process. You will always be living with that inner dialogue, and your body will be your home until the day it expires. You don’t want to struggle with this stuff for 80, 90, 100 years, do you??
Make peace at home.
Make love happen inside.
Be kind to yourself and heal what needs to be healed.
Sit with those painful places and allow yourself to feel whatever you need to feel so that you can release the “heat” of your pain and tap into that great well of love underneath.
Figure out what YOU need to do that.
For me, yoga, seated meditation, and therapy were and are the ticket.
I talk about love a lot because I feel it all the time. Occasionally someone says, “Love is a lie”. HOLLYWOOD love is a lie.
Love is your natural state.
Curiosity and joy and compassion and cooperation are natural to all of us. We LEARN fear and hate and anger and judgment.
Unlearn that stuff, it’s making you miserable.
We’ve been telling some crazy stories. We’ve been taught that we’re against each other, that the strongest person wins, that you need to compete to survive. We need to cooperate to survive.
We need to get that WE ARE ALL ONE….. in a real, visceral way.
We need to feel that truth.
And we need to act on it.
If you don’t like GMO’s, you can decide you are going to stop eating processed food. It’s not that hard, and fruit is delicious by the way. (Of course, that means you need fruit that isn’t poisoned with the same pesticides that are killing off the bees). But you understand, I’m saying you can vote with your fork.
If you feel this world is too violent, superficial, distracted by things that don’t matter, you can stop going to violent movies, or buying magazines that make you feel like crap about yourself. Vote with your dollar, there’s huge power in that. If there’s a dwindling market, the product will dry up and go away.
Stop wasting your money on crap you do not need, that will NEVER make you happy.
Tell your children a different story about this world and how to be in it.
But start with yourself, get right with yourself, love yourself.
When you start to feel that inside, it will naturally start to inform your words and your actions. You will naturally start to affect the world around you in a loving way. You’ll smile at strangers, open doors for people, allow someone to merge in traffic. You think that stuff doesn’t matter? How do you feel when someone lets you merge or holds a door open? Isn’t there some part of you deep inside that breathes a sigh of relief? Doesn’t your soul do a little happy dance? Don’t you feel encouraged and reassured that people do care? You have a lot of power. There’s no reason you need to feel alone or lost or defeated. You’re none of those things. You know how you were told to be quiet all those years in school? To get in line and act like everyone else?
Get LOUD. Act UP, and get out of line!
Let’s make some love happen together, shall we?
Really hoping you’re feeling the huge hit of love I just sent you. Ally, Yoga Annonymous
